Opportunities are available for enthusiastic undergraduate students that would like research experience. The research projects are varied and interdisciplinary. Students with interests and background in any combination of environmental science, math and computer science, physics, chemistry and biology are welcome to contact Drs. Irwin and/or Finkel.
Graduate student positions are available to work on phytoplankton acclimation or adaptation to climate change. Students should have an interest in phytoplankton physiology, ecology, and/or evolution.
Mount Allison University is in the beautiful small town of Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, next to the Bay of Fundy, less than an hour from Moncton, NB and PEI, and a few hours drive from St. John and Fredericton, NB, and Halifax, NS.

We are seeking applications for two post-doctoral research associates in phytoplankton ecophysiology and phytoplankton modeling at Mount Allison University (Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada).
The phytoplankton ecophysiology position will focus on the environmental factors influencing phytoplankton community size-structure at range of spatial and temporal scales. Candidates will have experience and demonstrated skills in lab experiments using phytoplankton cultures or the micropaleontological and/or isotope analysis of ocean sediment samples. Some technical work developing methods for the FlowCam will be required as part of this position.
The phytoplankton modeling position will explore environmental controls of size-structure and functional groups in plankton communities. Candidates for the ocean modeling position will have a background in computational, mathematical, or statistical modeling.
Candidates should have a PhD in ecology, oceanography, or a related discipline. For more information on research in our lab see www.mmab.ca. Applicants should send a cover letter identifying near and long-term research goals, a current c.v., and contact information for three referees by email to Zoe Finkel (zfinkel at mta dot ca) or Andrew Irwin (airwin at mta dot ca). Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
